What is Medi-Cupping?

A wonderful ancient tool has found its place in the contemporary world of health care: Cupping Massage. Cupping Massage is a modern form of vacuum therapy, and the incredible results that this simple treatment produces have truly impressed those who experience its subtle power.

By creating suction and vacuum pressure, cupping is used to soften tight muscles and tone attachments, loosen adhesions and lift connective tissue, bring hydration and blood flow to body tissues, move deep inflammation to the skin surface for release, and drain excess fluids and toxins by opening lymphatic pathways.

Cupping massage therapy is incredibly versatile and the basic movements can easily be customized to accomplish a wide variety of techniques, from lymphatic drainage to deep tissue release. 



How is this done? 

Several smoothed surface plastic cups are placed on the Back, Hamstrings, Quads (no inner thigh), Forearms, Biceps, Triceps, Pecs, Hands, and Feet with a hand pump. When placing the cups you and the therapist will decide the best route to take to help the client with the tightness, pain and stagnation during the session. The placement time will be between 30 sec to 15 mins, depending on the session.  During the placement time of the cups, the therapist will do massage therapy on the arms or legs or even the back. Once the time is completed for the placement cups and they are removed, a medical grade silicon soft cup will be run over the area that was cupped and even the areas in between the placed cups to help the lymphatic system move the stagnation out of the body even faster.  This cup is squeezed and applied to the skin and then moved over the skin by the therapist.

You can even have your Face cupped. Most of us don’t think about having toxins in the facial muscles. This is my favorite area to have cupped. It makes my face feel so good. Helps to remove stagnation and helps bring healthy blood to the surface. This cupping is done by continually running the cup over the face in a specific way to where it benefits the face and neck without stressing the delicate facial skin.

 History

 There is reason to believe the practice dates from as early as 3000 B.C.; the earliest record of cupping is in the Ebers Papyrus, one of the oldest medical textbooks in the world, describes in 1550 B.C. Egyptians used cupping. Archaeologists have found evidence in China of cupping dating back to 1000 B.C. In ancient GreeceHippocrates (c. 400 B.C.) used cupping for internal disease and structural problems. This method in multiple forms spread into medicine throughout Asian and European civilizations.

Cupping Therapy

The Medi-Cups are used to release toxins, adhesions, scars and knotting that cause restrictions in the body which in turn causes pain. This incredibly effective technique increases blood flow which in turn relieves pain by clearing debris, opening drainage, and easing limited movement which enables the body to promote healthier tissue.  The Medi- cups are moved over the skin by using gliding, shaking, popping and rotating techniques while gently pulling up on the cup. Some are parked for a short time to facilitate joint mobilization or soft tissue release.  Range of motion (ROM) will also be performed with some joints to allow for even more movement and less pain.  This suction can reach deep into the soft tissue or can work superficially to pull inflammation and toxins toward the surface so that the skin and lymphatic system can readily eliminate them. This therapy is extremely helpful with chronic pain sufferers.  Scar tissues often released quickly, despite the age of the injury or keloid tendencies.
